I’m an adult third culture kid who grew up in Pakistan and then lived as an adult in Pakistan and Egypt. My claim to fame is that I birthed 5 kids on 3 continents, and went on to raise them in Pakistan and Egypt before moving to the United States. I currently live in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where I am learning to love both sides of the globe, and working to live well between worlds. Our home is 15 minutes from the international terminal, a fact that guarantees easy access to the Middle East & Pakistan, as well as welcoming a host of visitors from around the world.
I have a passion for underserved communities, for refugee and immigrant populations both sides of the globe, and for communicating my faith through my work and life.
I began blogging in 2011 following a trip to Pakistan where I worked as a nurse with internally displaced people. The blog turned into a book this past summer, and I have been overwhelmed and grateful for the response to Between Worlds: Essays on Culture and Belonging. My writing also appears in the book What a Woman is Worth, Civitas Press published 2014, Among Worlds Magazine, and A Life Overseas – The Missions Conversation .
In 2014 I was honored to be listed in 101 Culturally Diverse Christian Voices on the Link Between Worlds Blog. You can find me blogging regularly at Communicating Across Boundaries – communicating across faith & culture, and on Twitter at @marilyngard.
